Here Is A Helpful Step
Do you need to look at your sample ballot before you vote? In a word: yes. In a sentence: absolutely you should.
In any election some issues are going to get greater attention than others. You may feel prepared to vote only to learn that there are issues on the ballot that you did not research. Some people vote for things they shouldn’t and others, not wanting to do the wrong thing, leave questions blank.
There is no need for this. Look at your sample ballot prior to voting, eliminate the mystery and do your research. You should know how to answer every single question on your ballot. Lines are redrawn every year and you may now be ineligible to vote for candidates you thought you could endorse. Amendments, retentions, and referendums sometimes make it on the ballot (or worse, are sneaked on the ballot) and you don’t want to be surprised.
Suppose the following: the semester final is coming up and the teacher wants the class to do their very best. To insure everyone will do their best, the teacher gives the class all the questions that will be on the test, prior to taking the test. Now everyone knows exactly what to research and what to study. They should walk into class knowing the answer to each and every question. It would be foolish to walk into class unprepared.
You should know how to answer every single question when you vote. Think of all of the steps you’ve taken to vote…why would you go all that way just to leave some questions blank because you are unsure? Get informed and vote confidently! Ask your County Clerk for your sample ballot. If you live in Will County, you can find your sample ballot here.
